Scultping
Well, currently I am waiting for the insurance to
come through for the wrecked Sakura that I just
finished. The post office totally, and utterly,
destroyed her. :-(
In the meantime, I have had a sudden urge to
scultp my own kit. Now, bearing in mind I have
never done this before. But, it is strangly quite
fun, even if at the moment the skeleton of my
model looks VERY dodgy and lumpy. If she turns
out like I want her to, I will enter her in the
winter competion 2006 on the e2046 site. If not,
well...
Anywho, I have another commission just come in! I
always get so happy when this happens. The sight
of the wrecked sakura made me want to stop, but
in the end, I knew that I just love this hobby
too much to quit. I will just have to jump right
back in. (I mean, I don't give up easily on other
stuff, so I wont with this!)
I will be starting on
the lovely Urd, and am quite excited about
this one as I will get to do lots of shading and
grading of colours, something I dont get much
license to do sometimes. She has loads of
pinholes all over her, like sakura, so I have
specially ordered (finally!) some Mr Surfacer, as
it took me too long last time to milliput and
sand the pinholes away. Will post pictures soon.

Haven't posted in a while, as I have been very
busy so please excuse!
I had to strip the paint off her face and legs in
the end, as pinholes were still visible & I
wasn't happy with the colour. After managing to
turn her pink (dont ever use nail polish remover
to take off paint), and scrubbing her down with
peroxide toothpaste to make her white again, I re-
milliputted her, sanded this down again, and
layed her with firstly a base coat then several
layers of white. I used the clear tone method to
do her flesh, and will put the photos up shortly
in the album section.
Getting her to balance was tricky, as her hat
pieve was very heavy, but pinning and using very
strong glue helped make her sturdy.

Late update
Well, its been a while, but heres the work I've
done on her (and when I get the chance, I'm
moving this website to aone which has a blog
which I can post photos on!)
Anyway, I have now shaded in her wings but I'm
not happy with the way I've done it, so Im going
to go over the shading with white and turn to
pastels so I can do a neater job. (Am I too much
of a perfectionist?)
Her white dress has been shaded as well, and I
have glued it all together and puttyed it, but
need to smooth it all over before I can do a
final coat + shading.
The hat has been painted, but I had to re-sand
down some rough parts I had missed but those have
again been repainted. I now need to do a nice
layer of shading on the hat, and it 'should' be
finished.
The baubles has been filed down and pinned, and I
just need to clean them then add a base before
painting them. Photos to follow shortly.
I have also stripped her face and arms of paint
(to dark!!), and also re-puttyed and sanded her
face, to get rid of those damned pinholes.

Air compressor fixed!!
At last! I seemed to have fixed my faulty air
comprssor (it fell on the floor), at least to the
point where I can paint again (although it isn't
exactly what it used to be).
So, progress report:
Sakura now has her white parts 'whited' and blue
parts 'blued'. This is the first coating, and I
will do subsequent coats from here. I have taken
the paint off of her face, as I'm still not happy
with the pinholes. Its just annoying that they are
on her face, as I cant really put too much putty on
etc to sand off, as it might ruin her features and
I dont dare risk that!
Next stage will be to apply more coats of paint,
and start adding detail to her face (althouhg not
the eyes, as I always leave those for last).
Then, once that is done, I will add shading to her
costume, and start work on those baubles.

Painting skintone
Skintone is always the no.1 pet peeve with me. But
this time, I think I am happy with what Im doing! I
use the clear colour method for skintones (detailed
here -
http://forum.e2046.com/viewtopic.php?t=6776), , but
I slightly over did it on Sakura's face - argh, but
I need to mix up some more tone anyway, of the
highlighting variety, so that will deal with that.
I _was_ going to start on the white parts of her
today as well (the wings, and her costume), but my
airbrush isn't feeling too good after the tamiya
base coat I put in it (the stuff dries all
powdery-like), so I need to give it a good clean
out. Plus, since I live in a block of flats, and
it's 8pm now, I can't really do any more tonight or
the neighbours will get upset about the noise my
compressor makes (darn thing, why can't it be silent?)
Ah yes, I also got some super sculpey through the
post today (courtesy of ebay, heh), so when I'm done
with this kit, my friends present (on which I have
yet to start), and my (e2046) competition entry
(which is very nearly finished), oh and when I
finish university, then I can have a go atmaking my
own kit ^_^
